No, in general, don’t compost creeping buttercup.

Creeping buttercup, Ranunculus repens, is a perennial plant that is classed as an invasive weed in many areas. Its yellow flowers may look pretty but they are poisonous to animals and the plant’s sap can cause skin blistering too.

Composting it in a basic heap may help it spread – or at least continue being a problematic presence in your garden.

Some councils offer garden waste collection services. Unless they stipulate otherwise, they may be willing to collect troublesome weeds like creeping buttercup because their industrial composting methods can deal with the pest before it has a chance to regrow and/or will sterilise the seeds to prevent new spread.
